A10. Containerized applications should be run in the Common Platform

The first value-adding platform that should receive consideration from service owners is the Common Platform’s container hosting environment, built on the public cloud, that is supported by DoIT and intended to be responsive to our particular use cases. This is the recommended approach for new and existing applications hosted by the Division that can be readily containerized.

The Common Platform encompasses an evolving set of value adding services aimed ultimately at making the public cloud adoption frictionless for the Division, and over time, its developers aim to establish a feedback loop to refine patterns supported by common platform by establishing an initial focus of effort (in this instance, container hosting as a service), inviting early adopters, working closely with them and iterating over the vision of best practices based on these experiences.
