C4. Within a service delivery model, prefer managed services over those that we operate, especially for lower level components of an application

We recommend that within a given service delivery model, service owners choose the highest level of abstraction unless they have a good reason not to. This is especially true for PaaS services, which may have a spectrum of service offerings spanning the gamut from fully to partially managed. We recommend that service owners prefer managed services for lower level, supporting components of their applications. In general, if a service owner is not directly delivering business value to the University by managing a supporting component themselves, it’s better to let the platform do more of that supporting work.
