C5. The preferred cloud provider for the Division of IT is AWS

The Division of IT has expressed a preference for Amazon Web Services over other cloud providers as the target environment for the Common Platform Initiative. Additionally, the fact that there is a greater depth of technical expertise relating to the AWS stack on the part of DoIT staff makes it a good first choice for new public cloud deployments generally. It can reasonably be assumed that the recommendation to use AWS will remain so long as AWS retains a greater “market share” of deployed enterprise applications for DoIT, and as long as the contractual terms by which we access the platform remain favorable. Both of these factors could change in the future, and as this is a living document, this section will be updated to reflect current realities. The recommendation to consider AWS as a first choice is neither a mandate to use AWS in every case, nor a prohibition against the use of other providers.
